Can You promote the reduction of environmental problems, while drinking coffee with cocolate? YES!

Fairtrade®

Drink coffee and cocolate labeled with Fairtrade!

  • What is Fairtrade? Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices (which must never fall lower than the market price), Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.
  • Fairtrade products are never genetically modified.
  • Are Fairtrade certified products also organic? Not necessarily. Fairtrade criteria do require sustainable farming techniques, and require higher prices to be paid for organic products. Moreover, Fairtrade Premiums are often used to train producers in organic and sustainable techniques like composting and integrating recycled materials, which can help them make progress in organic conversion in the future.

We offer that You join us in searching for Fairtrade products in Lithuanian shops. You are welcome to send us (goda.kuliesyte@bef.lt) photos of the product and also info, which shop You have found the item would be appreciated. Most active participants will be granted with BEF's bags from ecological cotton right before Christmas in 2008!

Moreover, BEF has launched a project on making Fairtrade renowned in Lithuania. It is planned to raise awarenes of companies, to make them import Fairtrade products and launch this label on their products, supermarket chain staff, to make them more competent in explaining the clients what Fairtrade is; society, to increase Fairtrade products' demand.
